wisegear Admin Lab makes supported WordPress admin screens feel like your workspace. The free Appearance edition works indefinitely without a license key, account, subscription, or connection to wisegear.
- Light, dark, system, and native WordPress appearance.
- Site or agency name, logos for light and dark backgrounds, and a brand color with derived accessible control colors.
- Comfortable or compact spacing, reduced motion, and higher contrast.
- Personal appearance and comfort preferences in each user’s profile.
- An optional native WordPress admin color scheme that respects a person’s existing color choice.
- A toolbar appearance switch, native-appearance recovery, and a temporary per-user safe mode.
- A site-wide WGAL_SAFE_MODE recovery constant.
Appearance starts disabled. Preview your settings at Settings > Admin Lab, then enable when ready. Styling is limited to supported core admin screens; it does not restyle arbitrary third-party plugin pages or your public website.
The separate paid Admin Lab edition adds Copy, Environment, Toolbar customization, Notices, Dashboard customization, Menu, Roles, and Fleet tools. Those modules are not included in this plugin. Free Appearance has no time limit. Learn about the paid edition at https://shop.wisegear.com/admin-lab.

Privacy and external services
This free edition does not include analytics, telemetry, Freemius, licensing calls, or an external updater. It makes no plugin-initiated requests to external services. WordPress.org handles updates through WordPress. Documentation and product links open only when you choose them. Logos are selected from your own WordPress media library.
Settings and personal preferences are stored on your WordPress site. Deactivation and uninstall retain them so reinstalling or switching editions preserves your setup. Images remain in the media library. See the documentation for data retention and removal instructions.

Installasjon
- Install and activate wisegear Admin Lab.
- Open Settings > Admin Lab.
- Choose your appearance and branding, preview the result, and select Enable.
- Each person can choose their appearance under Users > Profile.
To switch between the free and paid editions, back up your site, deactivate the installed edition, and install the other edition. Use only one edition at a time. Both use the same Appearance settings; free-edition saves preserve stored paid settings without applying paid modules. The paid edition requires its own valid license.

Does free Appearance expire?

No. Everything included in this plugin remains available without payment, activation, or an account.

Does it change permissions or public pages?

No. It changes admin appearance, not WordPress capabilities or public content. The block and classic editors retain their content workflows.

How do I recover the original interface?

Choose Use native WordPress appearance from your toolbar account menu, or enter Admin Lab safe mode there. For site-wide recovery, add define( «WGAL_SAFE_MODE», true ); to wp-config.php. Settings are preserved.

What happens to paid settings if I install the free edition?

They stay stored. The free edition applies only Appearance and does not run paid modules. Switch back to the paid edition with a valid license to use those modules again.

Does it support multisite?

Appearance can be configured separately on each site. Network-wide defaults, role policies, and Fleet management belong to the separate paid edition. Appearance is not applied to the network admin.
